You’re Allowed to Change Your Mind About the Life You Thought You Wanted

“Maybe the dream didn’t fail. Maybe you just changed.”

Tiah

I changed my mind.

There. I said it. 😂

Over the last few weeks, I’ve been putting a lot of energy into becoming more intentional about content creation.

I made plans. I created strategies. I started thinking about brand partnerships, growing my platforms and what it would look like to really take being a “content creator” seriously.

And somewhere in the middle of all that planning, something happened.

It stopped being fun.

What started as something I genuinely enjoyed suddenly started feeling like another job.

And my first instinct wasn’t to question the goal.

It was to question myself.

Maybe I need to be more disciplined.

Maybe I need a better system.

Maybe I need to be more consistent.

Maybe I just need to push through.

Until I finally asked myself a completely different question:

What if I just don’t want this the way I thought I did?

And whew.

That question will make you reevaluate some things.

Sometimes the goal changes

I think we put a lot of pressure on ourselves to stay committed to things simply because we once said we wanted them.

You said you wanted the promotion.

You said you wanted to move to that city.

You said you wanted to build the business.

You said you wanted the relationship.

You said you wanted the house.

You said you wanted to become a content creator.

So now you feel like you have to keep wanting it.

But the version of you who made that decision had different information.

She may have had different priorities.

Different circumstances.

Different responsibilities.

She might have needed something completely different from life.

And now you know more.

Changing your mind with new information isn’t failure.

Sometimes it’s growth.

You don’t have to turn everything you love into a business

This one hit me personally.

I love creating.

I love sharing things I discover.

I love talking about my life, travel, beauty, my career and whatever random thing I’m into at the moment.

But somewhere along the way, I started thinking that because I enjoyed creating content, I needed to become a Content Creator.

Capital C. 😂

Suddenly there were posting schedules, content pillars, analytics, brand pitches, editing schedules, growth strategies and all these other things attached to something that used to simply be fun.

And I realized something.

I can enjoy creating content without needing content creation to become my next career.

I can post a video because I like it.

I can share something from a trip because I want to.

I can talk about a product I love without wondering whether the brand is going to see it.

I can let something be fun without immediately asking how I’m going to monetize it.

That doesn’t mean I’m deleting my accounts or disappearing from social media.

It just means I’m changing the role I want it to play in my life.

And there is so much freedom in that.

The same thing happens with our careers

This is something I’ve been thinking about a LOT lately.

There are so many experienced professionals who know they want something different, but they’re terrified to make a move because of everything they’ve already invested in their current path.

Maybe you’ve spent 10 years in an industry.

Maybe you’ve worked hard for the title you have now.

Maybe you finally reached the salary you once prayed for.

And now you’re sitting there thinking:

Why am I not happy?

Or even scarier:

What if I don’t want this anymore?

That doesn’t erase everything you’ve accomplished.

I’ve worked in different industries throughout my career, and every move taught me something I carried into the next one.

I didn’t throw away my experience every time I changed direction.

I repositioned it.

And I think that’s an important distinction.

Sometimes changing your mind doesn’t mean starting over.

Sometimes it means taking everything you’ve learned and deciding where you want to take it next.

Maybe you’ve simply outgrown the plan

There are dreams I had at 25 that I don’t want at 42.

There are things I thought would make me successful that don’t impress me nearly as much anymore.

There are things I used to tolerate that I have absolutely no interest in tolerating today.

That’s life.

We’re supposed to change.

And yet we can be so hard on ourselves when the life we want changes too.

Maybe you thought you’d be married by now.

Maybe you thought you’d have children.

Maybe you thought you’d live somewhere else.

Maybe you thought you’d stay at that company until retirement.

Maybe you thought you’d own a huge house and now you’d rather have a passport full of stamps and somebody else responsible for fixing the air conditioner. (Raises hand lol)

Maybe the dream didn’t fail.

Maybe you just changed.

The rich life has to be YOUR rich life

This is the part I keep coming back to.

It’s easy to build a life based on what looks successful from the outside.

The salary.

The title.

The house.

The relationship.

The followers.

The business.

The things we’re supposed to want.

But if maintaining all of it makes you miserable, exhausted or constantly anxious, at some point you have to ask:

Who am I doing this for?

Because your rich life doesn’t have to make sense to everybody else.

It just has to feel rich to you.

And sometimes living it requires admitting that something you once wanted doesn’t fit anymore.

That can be scary.

It can also be incredibly freeing.

So yes, I changed my mind

I’m still going to create.

I’m still going to share my life.

I’m still going to make videos when I have something to say or something fun to show you.

But I’m taking the pressure off myself to turn every part of my life into content.

And I’m putting more of my energy toward the things I’m genuinely excited to build right now.

Will I change my mind again someday?

Probably. 😂

And that’s okay too.

We’re allowed to make decisions based on who we are today instead of staying loyal to a version of ourselves we’ve already outgrown.

So if you’ve been wrestling with something because you once said you wanted it, maybe you don’t need another productivity system.

Maybe you don’t need to try harder.

Maybe you just need to ask yourself:

Do I still want this?

And give yourself permission to answer honestly.

Let’s talk 🤎

What’s something you once thought you wanted, but eventually realized didn’t fit your life anymore?

Tell me in the comments. I have a feeling I’m not the only one changing my mind around here. 😂👀

Now go live your richest life, and we’ll talk soon 💋
